I have a Kenmore 8 sewing machine. The needle will move up and down with the handwheel on the right, but not with the pedal. When I press down the pedal the wheel moves, but the needle does not. I checked the bobbin threading position and also took apart the bobbin area and there was no tangled thread that I could see. The machine zooms like it's working, but the needle is still. Any ideas?
Hold the outer wheel with one hand and with the other try to turn the small inner wheel clockwise. If the inner wheel moves that will tighten the two to turn together. If the inner wheel is tight already then the problem is elsewhere.
If you are still having this problem this is what you should do. Remove the screw in the smaller knob on the right side of the machine. Unscrew the smaller knob, you will have to hold the larger wheel when doing this. There is a washer between them. Pay attention to the way it is put on. Reverse the washer and put it back together. Your problem will be fixed.

I have a Singer sewing machine. I have not had it a year yet. When I went to use my machine today my needle will move using the handle to move it up and down, but when I press on the pedal it makes the noise, but the needle stays still.
The bobbin pin spins like normal when I use pedal still. I have taken the cotton off and reloaded it and there was no change.Could it be that you've inadvertently engaged the function that keeps the needle from moving up and down while you wind the bobbin? My machine has a "wheel" on the right hand side that has a smaller wheel set into it - to disengage the stitch function I turn the inner wheel towards me while holding the outer wheel, reverse turn the other way to tighten it and allow needle to more again. Good luck! Hope it's an easy fix!
I have had isues like this that when you press the pedal the machine just makes noise and won't move. Most of the time you just need to turn the wheel to get it going again. If this is not helping it could be an issue with the belt that moves the needle up and down. You may need to take the cover off the back of the machine and check out the cables and belts.
I have a Janome DMX100 Petite sewing machine. I was using it with no problems, then it just stopped. The needle will still move if I use the wheel, but if I am trying to use the foot pedal it won't move and makes a noise.
I would take the bottom off the pedal and see if there is a loose or broken wire.
I have a Brother Innovis 2800d embroidery machine and the needle will not go up or down. You can not turn the knob on the end of the machine. The pedal is plugged in and the pressure foot is down.
It may need to be oiled.
Hi,
It sounds as if the belt has come undone from the pulley that is on the motor. Hope this helps.
Blessings,
