Sewing Machine Needle Won't Seat Properly?

What could be the cause if my needle will not properly seat in the holder with the flat side to the back of my sewing machine?

The needle could be bent slightly or have a burr (rough spot) on it. Have you tried another needle? Do you have a screw tightener? In my house, there could be a blob of dust bunny in the needle shaft ...you can try to carefully use the other side of the needle to see if there is anything stuck. Take the screw all the way out and clean in there also. Those are the reasons I experiencing with my old Kenmore. Hope this helps!

Try a new needle. It might be bent out of shape

Generally this can be caused by using an incorrect needle or a problem (snag on needle, slight bend) with the needle (even if it is a new needle).

Make sure it is the correct needle and then try a new one - hope it works.
