A chain necklace that has been shortened temporarily. You can now wear the same necklace short or long.

Pinch the chain behind your neck to the correct length.

Turn the necklace to the front, still holding the pinched area.
Put a safety pin through both sides near the pinch and fasten.
Turn the necklace around again and hide the extra chain under your top.

Good tip. Another cool way of doing it is to make actual knots in the chain. Not unlike you shorten lanyards or crocheted chains, this works to shorten the length.

That is true. I like this tip because you can adjust the chain in seconds and wear the same necklace with many different tops.

Putting a knot in your chain is a good way to ruin a good chain. Only do this with costume jewelry. I spent many years as a jeweler repairing karat gold and sterling silver necklaces.

Another way to shorten a chain is to put a jump ring into one of the links a few inches down from the original end ring so you can fasten the catch into the jump ring.
