I recently found a Singer Fashionmate 7256 at a thrift store brand new for $20. All I thought I needed was a pressure foot. OK let's sew. It worked for a little while then the needle decided it didn't want to stay in the middle. Now it is to the left. I can push it, but it flings right back.
Help me please.

Before you take it in for servicing, contact the support page at the website. www.singer.com/
This may be a dumb question, but have you tried making sure the setting for zig zag is not stuck on--which would cause the needle to move from one side or the other. I have an old machine that it is a manual turn between straight and zig and if the dial gets linty, it can not click properly and cause an issue similar to what you are describing.
If your machine is computerized and it is a computer zig to straight setting--you may get helpful info from their contact site.
