Silver Post Medal for All Time! 293 Posts I was going away for the weekend and wanted a small purse. I wanted it just big enough to hold a small wallet, phone, powder, and lipstick. I also wanted to use thick yarn and a big hook so that I could finish it quickly. This is what I came up with. It is easy and you'll be done in no time. Have fun!
Total Time: About 4 hours
Supplies:
- "K" crochet hook
- chunky #6 yarn
- scissors
- embroidery needle for weaving in ends
- button
Steps:
- Ch 18.
- Sc in 2nd ch from hk and each ch until end. Work 3 sc in last ch. Rotate your work and work 1 sc in each ch on opposite side, making 2 sc in your last stitch. *Your last stitch will be where your very first sc was, for a total of 3 sc in this space*
- Ch 1, do not turn, 1 sc in same space as your ch 1 and in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to your first sc.
- Repeat the last row 16 more times.
- For your flap; Ch 4, join.
- Ch 2, 5 hdc in your ring.
- Ch 2, turn. 1 hdc in same space as ch, 2 hdc in each stitch until the end.
- Ch 2, turn. 1 hdc in same space as ch, *1 hdc in next, 2 hdc in next,* Repeat steps between * till end.
- Ch 2, turn. 1 hdc in same space as ch, *1 hdc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch.* Repeat steps between * until end. Finish off.
- Center your flap on the back top edge of your purse and attach with sc.
- Strap; Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hk and each till end. (4 sc)
- Ch 1, turn. 1 sc in same space as ch and each till end. Repeat this row until your strap is about 44 1/2" long.
- Now you will ch 1 and slip st around your entire strap. This will reinforce it and prevent excess stretching when in use.
- You will center your straps about 1" down on each side and sew to your bag.
- Sew a large button to the front of your purse.
- Attach your yarn with a slip st to the bottom of your flap and ch the desired length. Re-attach in the same spot with a slip st and finish off. How many you ch simply depends on the size of your button. You want your loop big enough to fit around your button, but snug enough to not slip off easily.
- Happy purse making! :)
