Photo Description Seattle just got hit with a ton of snow last week and now it is our turn for some. It's snowing pretty steadily although it looks to stop by mid-morning, although more is in the forecast. The school district has put us on a two-hour delay, mostly because of school buses in higher elevations. My teenager is happily sleeping in.
Kids in the Pacific NW get very excited when snow is in the forecast because there is a great likelihood of school cancellations. We usually only see a substantial snowstorm every few years. Because it is so rare, our transportation departments don't have the equipment and resources you see in many parts of the country. It's usually best to have a couple of snow days rather than risk icy roads and unfamiliar drivers.

And we in central North Carolina are just getting over the most rain ever to fall during this time of year since the weather bureau has been keeping records. I've been house bound for four days.
I'll take your beautiful snow any day!
Very nice picture.
It's been a weird winter for weather, that's for sure. Hope your rain stops in time for the weekend.
Hey, did you ever see this question I posted? Seems right up your alley. ;)

How wonderful it must be to enjoy the occasional snow and lack of machinery to deal with it. I live in a snow belt. My residence is in the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island. Although my kids love snow days as much as any other we have way to many of them. We are notoriously known as No School Foster-Glocester We have bumper stickers, coffeee cups, candy jars, T-shirts and the like that boasts this oh so familiar phrase from my neck of the woods.
I lived in North Attleboro, MA for a few years so I remember the snow plows out at the first hint of a flake and the giant mountains of snow in parking lots that would linger until spring. Loved the area but didn't enjoy the hot summers and cold winters.
You can still get horse drawn hayrides from October through say January. When you come back to New England be sure to check out Chepachet Farms on Tourtellot Hill Rd in Chepachet RI for your horse drawn hayride. From North Attleboro, Chepachet is about 30 minutes down the road. As far as the heat.....well it just isnt warm enough around here for me. Oh yes this is the lovely snow we received last night. It was a close call No School Foster-Glocester, just a 2 hour delay.
It's been a very strange winter to say the least. We got snow that actually stayed on the ground overnight at sea level around Feb 2nd, near the Pacific Ocean here in the beautiful Redwood forest of Crescent City, Ca.
