My son is 4 years old. His father passed away when he was 15 while I was pregnant. He had never had a job I have looked into getting a DNA test to be able to get my son's father's name on his birth certificate and was told I could get SS benefits. I am skeptical about spending the money to get the DNA test and a lawyer if I won't be able to receive any assistance. If someone could help guide me it be great. Thank you.

Call you local Social Security Office and talk to them. They are the ones that will know the correct answer. That being said, I don't see how somebody that has never worked in their life, could qualify for Social Security, however, I have never been connected with Social Security, other than collecting retirement SS.
Do I understand you correctly? The Father was a teen when he got you pregnant and died at 15 years old? In any case social security has to have been paid in for your son to receive benefits.
