Softening Metal Wind Chimes

Some chimes seem to be overpowering and much louder than you might want. To lessen the harshness of chimes, stuff a cotton ball into each end of each metal cylinder. The result will be a muted, much softer sound that might be better suited to your ears.

I save the rubber bands that bundles my mail. I experimented with adding rubber bands around the cylinders. I found that 4 rubber bands staggered on each cylinder created a more muted, melodic, gentler tone.

It actually looks like the cylinders are bamboo because the bands segment each cylinder into 5 segments.
