A large amount of milk spilled on my carpet in my car. It now stinks. How can I get rid of the odor?

One thing that works on most smells is to cut up citrus fruit, and leave it in the smelly area. Try about 4 oranges, cut them into fourths, and put them on plates so they won't stain the car. Lemons might work, too, but oranges are the best. I've salvaged a refrigerator, and eliminated odors from rooms, with the help of oranges. They're nature's deodorizer. :-) (01/16/2010)
Try tying whole cloves in a cloth or rag. Crush them with a hammer and place over area where milk spilled in the car. Our daughter had spilled raw milk from her grandparents farm house in our car and the smell was terrible. One of the women my husband worked with told us to use cloves and it did take the smell away. Am not sure if I also used powdered cloves or not, couldn't hurt to try :) (01/18/2010)

Ok vinegar does not work. I tried that option. I do not have much stuff in house, and no money at this time. Is there anything in my kitchen cabinet of the spices I could try? (01/27/2010)

I once had the same problem when a jug of milk leaked in the trunk of my car. I first blotted as much up as possible and then sprinkled baking soda on the surface of the car trunk. I Let it sit for a couple of days and then vacuumed the baking soda up. Voila! never a smell again! (02/15/2010)
