Gold Post Medal for All Time! 899 Posts This simple split pea soup recipe is full of flavor and quick to make!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups (1 bag) split peas
- 8 cups hot water
- 1 - 1 1/2 cup ham, diced
- 1/4 cup bacon, crumbled
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup carrots, sliced
- 1/2 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp oregano, crushed
Steps:
- Heat oil over MED heat, in a large stock pot. Cook bacon, crumble, and return to pot. Add diced ham.
- Chop onions, carrots, and garlic. Add to pot and cook until onions are translucent.
- Put water into pot and add peas. Add oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce to simmer and cover. Cook until peas are tender (about 30-45 minutes).
- Use a potato masher to mash peas. Use a spoon to stir up mashed peas from bottom of the pot. Enjoy!
