You do not say what "color" (light or dark) your table is so some suggestions may be more suitable for dark and not light.
- This happens a lot so you are not by yourself in looking for a solution.
- No matter what method you use, I believe you should always work with the grain of the wood.
- Here are some suggestions that have been offered in the past:
- Mayonnaise and cigarette ashes is recommended a lot and I've hear that it does work. The problem so many people have now is "where do I get cigarette ashes?".
- Here is one alternative: mix 1-part mayonnaise to 1-part baking soda (not baking powder) as a cigarette ashes replacement. Rub the mixture along the grain directions using a paper towel or soft cloth and some pressure.
- Use Lemon Essential Oil and place several drops on the stain. The stain may remain for a few minutes but should disappear as the moisture evaporates.
- Someone recommended Green Works all purpose cleaner but I am not familiar with this product. Green Works is a liquid in a spray bottle and can be found at most Wall-Mart type stores. Just spray it on and wait a few minutes before wiping away with the grain.
- Someone else said they used a simple mix of olive oil and baking soda and rubbed lightly and eventually the stain faded completely without any apparent damage to the finish.

You can try a combination of mayonnaise and cigarette ashes.

I've had good luck removing those drink circles on wood, even really nice wood, by rubbing in mayo, leaving it for 10 - 15 minutes, then scrubbing area with 1/2 baking soda 1/2 water, leaving it, removing it, then going over the whole thing with special wood oil or a mix of AC vinegar and olive oil.

Thank you, CyberGrannie! We had a vinyl tablecloth sitting on a wood table and I am averse to mayonnaise to the point where we've never had it in the house. So, I took some olive oil and sprinkled in baking soda and that did wonders!! I was only worried after we tried wood cleaner and the light residue didn't even budge.
It came out easily with oil & baking soda, though - no scratches or any signs that there was something wrong! And I appreciate your kind words of reassurance that we're not alone, hahaha!
