You can make life easier for you and your new puppy if you start early with basic care giving and grooming. When you first get your puppy, begin slowly introducing it to the various grooming procedures it can expect to experience regularly throughout its life. You could start by softly brushing its hair as it sleeps in your lap.
Gently massage its feet so that it will get accustomed to having its feet touched. This will make nail trimming a much less stressful event when the time comes for a trim. You can actually pretend to be trimming its nail just to familiarize the puppy with the process.
Bathing should be done early in the puppy's life with consideration given to the temperature so that your puppy doesn't become chilled. Start early with the hair drying procedure so that your puppy will become familiar with the sound and the feel of the dryer. You should also establish a routine for cleaning your dog's ears.
Start early. Speak softly as you go through each grooming process. Establishing this bond will improve your relationship with your puppy and make the grooming process pleasurable for both of you.
