Store Compost in Refrigerator

I am a great fan of composting! It makes great fertilizer for my garden and reduces waste. I have tried a number of ways to avoid walking to compost pile every time I have compostable kitchen waste, veggies, fruit, paper napkins, plates, etc. Everything I tried, even fancy counter compost containers, left me with fruit flies whenever I tried to add to it.

Finally I thought of putting compost in the fridge! I save old ice cream containers or oatmeal boxes and keep them in the fridge! I throw the whole full container in the compost bin. You can do this with any paper container with a top, it works like a charm! If you need to hide it, put the paper container in a large coffee can and reuse it.

We often keep a paper sack in the freezer for the compost clippings. You can keep them forever and the bag is good as a "brown" for the compost.

This is especially good when the weather is bad and you don't want to go out for a week or more.
