Beer bread got me through the first weeks of the pandemic when yeast was impossible to find! You can use any beer or ale to make it. You can enrich it with an egg.
Your version of beer bread sounds delicious, but I make a version without self rising flour since I never have that on hand. Instead I use:
-2 3/4 cups flour
-1/4 cup sugar
-1 T baking powder
-1/4 t salt
-12 oz bottle beer
Following basically the same instructions as for your recipe. Although, I've never tried brushing the bread with butter, I will try that next time, I bet it adds a lot to the bread.
