I have a friend who has a daughter by her ex-boyfriend. He was killed in 2012. The daughter can't receive SS survival benefits because the father didn't have enough credits when he died. So she was denied. Is there anything else she could get? Does anybody know?

I guess I don't understand why she should get anything else, even though she can't get Survivor's Benefits. She got along before her Dad died, she should be able to get along now. If she is old enough she could get a job.
Probably not. Your dependents can't collect from SS if you don't pay into it. However, she might check with his work and where he banked to see if he had any life insurance policies.
Of course, we do not know the whole story here - perhaps the ex-boyfriend was helping with support before he died?
If not - then why would she need or expect SS money now?
The mother has probably been receiving "entitlements" from the time the child was born? If not then SHE should check out Children & Family Resources in her local area.
Just a comment about "free" insurance with a bank: this type of insurance is usually always "accident" insurance and does not cover a "natural" death.
