My husband passed away. My children and I were all eligible to receive benefits. They did. I didn't. I think it was taken for student loans. It's been 6yrs. Was that money applied to my defaulted loans?

Only SSA can answer your question-you can call or make an appointment with your local office.
You need to take your husband's death certificate to the nearest Social Security office and they will figure out what happened to the money and make sure you get it if you were entitled to it.
You should have received a letter if this happened and also don't you get statements on your student loans? Is the amount on them going down? You will need to call the SSA and office for the loans.
I received a letter in the beginning stating what I was entitled to but it also said that I could receive it at this time. Since then....well recently Ive checked my credit report.
Were you notified by SS that you and your children were eligible for benefits - did they give specifics as to amount for each person and when it would begin? How old were your children and did/do they live with you? Does their benefit checks go to them in their name? How are the benefits used? It is difficult to understand why someone would wait 6 years to ask about something this serious.
You will have to go to your SS office and ask the questions that should have been asked 6 years ago. Be sure you have as many papers as you can find that have been received from the Social Security Administration as well as your husband's death certificate.
As for information on your school loans, you can go on-line to whatever institution holds your loans and get information on what has been happening since you originally obtained the loans. You should know that something is going on if you have not been receiving notices about these loans - unless they are having trouble locating you.
it seems like your student loans would not be paid in this way, without your knowledge. I don't believe student loans can take SSI payments, but the best thing to do is to ask, call the student loan provider or te SSI
Well some of the questions have been answered. Since this benefit was probably going to be paid for the care of your husbands (and your) children then your benefit would depend on the age of the children at the time.
