Just did this very thiing for my God daughter. We went with a Mexican Fiesta theme - bright colors, even reverted to chiildhood a bit and had pinata and played pin the tail on the donkey. We served both beef and chicken fajitas, tacos, mexican rice, chili, chips and salsa, guacamole and a cupcake tower. We saw teenagers turn into little kids again, playing duck duck goose and other child games. They had a ball! Of course, we decorated with bright colors, balloons, streamers, etc. Hope this helps and Happy Birthday!
