Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 190 Posts When making a coiled rag bowl, it is important to properly tack the coils. Otherwise, your bowl will fall apart.
Supplies:
- fabric strips
- cotton cording
- embroidery floss
- embroidery needle
- scissors
Steps:
- Pin the coil in place. Use two pins, angled in opposite directions to hold coil in place at the end of a section.
- Push the needle down from the middle of the outer coil and come out at the upper part of the previous coil. Pull floss tightly but not enough to dimple the fabric.
- Insert the needle over slightly from where you came out and angle it so that you come out of the upper coil about 1/4 inch over.
- Now tack the stitch so that it doesn't loosen, by making a small stitch, through fabric and cordage, right next to where it came out of the coil.
- Now make the next stitch by moving the needle over about 1/4 inch and going down into the previous coil as before, then repeat until your project is complete.
