Take Advantage of Post Holiday Discounts

Besides shopping for cards, ribbons and wrap after Christmas at steep discount, think about other things you might want to seek out for next year. Now is the time to look around (when your house is still in full Christmas mode). How is that artificial tree looking? A little bedraggled? Table linens? Ornaments? All of that stuff will be at a 50 to 90 percent discount, usually starting on 12/26.

My big savings comes in the form of Christmas pajamas. I am, for want of a better word, the present matriarch of our family. Every Christmas Eve, my daughter and her family come to spend the night with me. I cook, everyone eats, and then I give out jammies to everyone. Since I buy them for 2 adults and 2 children, this easily runs over $100 if purchased at full price.

In order to save on next year's jammie gifts, I shop right after Christmas. The holiday motif ones are usually deeply discounted for obvious reasons, but winter ones in general are also. I am pretty good at getting the right sizes for next year. The adults are easy, as they are usually the same size, and I generally go up a size for the growing grandchildren.

So take a look around to see what you can do to make next Christmas a little thrifty!
