Total Time: 30 minutes
Yield: one tray cloth
Supplies:
- printout of provided pattern sheet (click here to download)
- 18.4 x 16.2 inch piece of unbleached linen
- set of 12 Giotto décor textile pens
- silver fabric pen
- Pentel ultra fine black pen
- standard scissors
- pencil
- ruler
- sewing machine and matching thread
- iron and ironing board
- light table (or well-lit window) to transfer pattern onto linen
Steps:
- Wash the linen and rinse it thoroughly in cold water to remove any sizing agent from the material. Note: Do not add fabric softener when rinsing the linen. Allow the linen to dry and iron it thoroughly before continuing with the next step.
- Fold the linen 0.2" from the edge and iron it down neatly to keep the fold in place. Repeat on the other three sides. Then, fold the linen a second time on each side, folding it 0.6" from the edge and sew a double fold hem all around the linen. This will prevent the tray cloth from fraying.
- Use the pencil and ruler, and measure a rectangle sized 12" x 8.4" in the centre of the cloth. Then, use the black pen to draw over the pencil lines ~ do not use the ruler when doing this.
- Use the light table and a pencil to transfer five tea pots to the cloth. Then, use the black Giotto pen to draw over all the pencil lines.
- Iron the cloth to set the black lines.
- Use the ultra fine pen to draw a design on each tea pot, such as hearts, circles, flowers, etc. Iron the cloth again before continuing.
- First color all the designs added to each pot and then iron the cloth again.
- Now color the background of each teapot and again iron the cloth before continuing with the next step.
- Use the neon yellow pen to unevenly color the rectangle's background.
- Add brown and silver squiggles to the yellow background. Iron the cloth again before continuing with the next step.
- Color the seam area with the neon yellow, and finish it off with brown and silver squiggles. Iron to complete and wait 72 hours before using.
