Diamond Post Medal for All Time! 1,246 Posts We have an apple tree that gives a lot of fruit. We don't use pesticides. Our organic beauties can start going brown more quickly once bruised. They may look ugly, but they still taste magnificent. With a little cutting and microwaving, you can have delicious applesauce in minutes.
Stores drop prices of apples once they go a bit soft. So if you don't have access to a tree, hunt for apple sales and use this technique to make thrifty applesauce.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Ingredients:
Steps:
- Remove all brown bits from apples and peel off the skins. Keep these scraps to bury in soil for compost.
- Chop apples into small pieces and place in a large microwaveable bowl. Cover with plastic wrap*, leaving a small space uncovered for steam to escape.
- Cook in microwave for 20 minutes. Remove plastic wrap.
- Smash with the back of a spoon, then cook uncovered for 5 more minutes.
- If your apples are particularly juicy, cook a bit longer. Use this applesauce for cooking, baking, spreading on toast, or as baby food.
*Make sure your plastic wrap says it's microwave safe.
