I buy chicken livers and separate them into ice cube trays. Then I will slip the whole tray in an old bread bag (turned inside out so I know what it is.) I will remove and defrost one about once a week, then give it as a treat to my very enthusiastic, finnicky cat, especially in the winter when she gets bored.
She adores it and it's a good source of vitamin A, which is better (and less expensive) for her then store bought cat treats.
If you don't like to feed your cat raw, just pop it in the microwave for a few seconds at a time until it's lightly cooked, then cool a bit and serve.
Liver isn't a substitute as an entire balanced cat food and feeding it exclusively or in abundance of course isn't advised. Just like people snacks, a little taste treat is better, which is why I separate and freeze it!

This is such a good idea! If you can find a store that carries them, chicken hearts are a good treat too. You don't have to worry so much about them having too much vitamin A. They are high in taurine which cats need in good amounts. They are also chewy and the cats seem to like them a lot My cats growl quietly while chewing theirs. Always makes me smile.
True.
My cat didnt seem to like hearts as much though, but each one is certainly different!
Just be aware that too much liver can cause diarrhoea in dogs. But a great storage idea anyway.
