While doing our frugal travel to Arizona this summer, I realized that part of my travel fun is visiting local second hand, thrift stores, and even garage sales. Often I see regional team, theme parks and other tourist stop items are available there used. This time I picked up a heavy duty black hoodie in very good shape with a "Sedona Soccer" on it. It cost me $4.00; not the $40.00 it may have cost originally, and I have a unique souvenir.

Yes, great shopping. Years ago I walked into a Cape Cod thrift store and was shocked to find large perfect sets of very expensive China worth thousands of dollars. I asked a staff member why they didn't sell it to a company that specialized in selling by the plate. She said their rules didn't allow them to do that. Tip: when traveling look for thrift stores in exclusive areas for the best finds.
I agree as the same thing happened to me in Cape Cod. I drooled over some of those antique china sets they were so lovely.
It is so much fun to visit charity shops around the country.
I agree...while visiting Hawaii, I checked out all kinds of little thrift shops and was able to collect all kinds of Hawaii items to remember & to share with friends back home...less than pennies on the dollar & met wonderful natives that were so warm & welcoming.....
When I vacationed in Honolulu, we went to the swap meet at the Aloha Bowl. It was a lot of touristy things but there were also booths that were from regular residents, selling their odds and ends. All sorts of cool things, like a giant garage sale.
My favorite souvenir that I brought back was a bag of sea salt that I got there for cheap. I had enough to last a few years.
One of my good friends brought me back from her holidays in Brasil a plastic fish she had found on the beach. I love it ! it is hanged on my entrance door handle. If I had been there on that beach I would have picked up that fish and brought it back home. I love the idea that it travelled from Brasil to France by plane and that may be it had been brought to that brasilian beach by the Atlantic ocean from an african beach or it is a toy a brasilian child forgot on the beach or a sea wave stole this toy from this child.
