I have had two dogs now that start to smell, if not hours after a bath, the next day. I have tried the vinegar w/mother treatment, coal tar soap, weekly baths and many other home remedies - nothing worked. I went through the medicine cabinet looking for something else to try and ran across a small bottle labeled Tineacide Antifungal Cream. It is used for athlete's foot and such.
After giving him a haircut (my dog is half sheep dog so I wanted to make sure the cream made contact with the skin), I put a small amount on my hands (1/4 teaspoon, I had no reason to believe it would do anything so I just tried a small amount to test) and rubbed it in to my dog's fur. Within an hour, I could not smell that rancid odor, just normal dog smell, a smell I had missed for so long. It was just amazing how little of that cream knocked out that huge smell.
I also applied a small amount to his feet and foot pads. It stopped the chewing issue with his feet that same day. At times I used to be able to smell my dog long before I saw him, but this cured that and fast.
I would love to hear if this works for you.
