Tiny Black Jumping Bugs in Bed that Bites?

A small black bug in a bed.I am going insane! As of three weeks ago I've suddenly been getting bit by these bugs, mostly at night but sometimes during the day. Over the course of the three weeks, I've only seen maybe 5-7 of them. When I first noticed I was getting bit, I immediately washed all my clothes and bedding. The bites would still appear but I didn't see them again until yesterday.

I've been to two doctors, neither of which could identify the bites and prescribed me steroids. When I see them, they usually jump away but when I do touch them they're very hard and can't be crushed. They don't bite my boyfriend or anyone else in the house either. I'm at my wits end. Most of the bites are on my legs but some are on my hands and arms. I'm constantly washing everything and sprayed Raid for fleas but I don't think they're fleas because they don't seem to have the prominent back legs. Please somebody help me I don't want this to get worse. They itch so bad. The bites vaguely resemble mosquito bites and either appear in clusters or alone. Thank you.

Red bite marks on an arm.

This does not look like a bed bug but instead, it looks like a flea beetle. They are a lot of times mistaken for fleas because they can jump like a flea but they are much larger than fleas. The other bug that looks like this and has the same type of bites is called a Conenose (or kissing) bugs. They normally come out at night to feed on the blood of humans.

You may need to get your home looked at and sprayed. In the meantime go to the store and buy some mint oil and apply this to your skin. The smell of the oil and the old on your skin will keep the bugs from biting you when you are sleeping.

The picture of the bug is a FLEA. Either you have a pet or if a rental, the previous people had a pet. Fleas can be a terrible nuisance, not only to you, but to your pets. If you have any animals, they need to be treated for fleas. I use Frontline on my cats. When first applied -a small tube of an oily substance you put on the back of the pet's neck- it starts killing the fleas immediately, and keeps the pet flea-free for a month till it's time to reapply. You will also need to wash pet bedding, and do a VERY thorough vacuuming of the whole house and any upholstered furniture...even removing cushions to get deep down into the furniture. Then take the vacuum OUTSIDE to remove bag or dirt cup, so you don't get any escapees in the house.

Then, I would set off as many flea bombs as needed (read the can for # of bombs for your size house) --you and pets will have to vacate the house for several hours, and put away all foods that normally sit out on counters. Once you are back in the house, follow up with another thorough vacuuming job and again, take vacuum outside to change bag or empty the dirt cup. If you still have a problem, you might want to call an exterminator. If you don't have any pets, and the previous people did, AND it's a rental unit, have the landlord take care of the problem...it's their responsibility.

Here's a test: divide up your home into 2-3 "zones", and scuff around each one separately while wearing white socks. Where the socks pick up the black insects, you have a flea infestation. If you find this near your shoes, the fleas might be hitchhiking in that way (especially if you walk through grass, even a little - such as by a sidewalk).

Please be EXTREMELY careful with "bug bombs" and such. They are toxic to humans when instructions aren't followed precisely. Good luck friend!
