For years I've had a difficult time cutting a whole watermelon without making a big mess. I've found that if I use a steak knife to cut a halved round watermelon around the inside like you would a grapefruit. Then cut into it like you would a pan of cake. The pieces will lift out without having to cut the rind. Serve on a plate, bowl, or put in a storage container with little or no mess.
