If you accidentally squeeze too much out of a tube, you can get it back in. Put the cap back on the tube. Squeeze the tube with the cap on. Remove the cap. The excess contents will be back in the tube!
If you squeezed out a huge amount, you may have to repeat the process, but it will all go back in.

Do not understand this at all. If I put the cap back on with the cream sticking out, it is just going to squish the cream all over the inside of the cap and all over the tube itself. What am I missing?
That's just what I thought. Maybe there is a step left out here or something? Just not following...
Glad I'm not the only one not understanding this.
This really works. The contents the cap covers will be sucked back into the tube. If you have really squeezed out a lot you will have to repeat the process.
I used this tip a lot when an elderly relative kept squeezing out too much expensive eye ointment. You will get a caps worth of contents back in the tube. If you don't get it all back on the first try, keep going. It works for anything that comes in a tube.
I discovered that if I hold a tube upright, and squeeze the flattened edges of the tube lower down, it will create a little suction inside the tube that will draw the excess toothpaste (or whatever) back into the tube. Putting the cap back on will only squash the excess all over the outside of the tube, as others have pointed out.
Umm, did you check the lid of the tube and make sure the cream just didn't build up in there?
