Making a topiary is easier than you think! Topiary means clipping shrubs and trees into ornamental shapes. I wanted to try with a small boxwood that was growing with no shape. I wanted it to have a shape and a more striking look, as if it grew that way. Begin with a pair of garden shears and cable ties. Take your ties and with the other hand, gather in the center. Wrap ties around and tie securely.
Now it's time for a boxwood haircut. Trim to shape. I chose a circular look (you can choose the shape that suits you). In time, this tiny lovely shrub will grow bigger and thicker.
The last picture is a year later, time for a haircut for spring. All that is left is to trim as needed to keep the look fresh. This can be done with all types of shrubs for little money and with an upscale look.
