Towels Washed in Homemade Soap Not Absorbent?

I'm a recent convert to using home made laundry soap. The ingredients I use are: washing soda, borax, and grated Ivory soap or Fels Naptha. After about 8 months of using this mixture (in a water base, not as a dry soap), I have noticed that none of our towels absorb moisture very well any more. It's really frustrating especially when you're cleaning up a mess or just stepping out of the shower! I mean, why even bother? Does anyone know if one of the ingredients I'm using would contribute to this situation? Help!

Maybe they are not getting rinsed out enough. If these ingredients were building up in the fabric they might repel water.
