We put mothballs under our rented mobile home because the smell of skunk was taking over our bedroom. We have an obvious hole going under the mobile that the landlord doesn't feel necessary to fix and we don't want to trap any animals under the mobile. The floor under our carpet must be very thin because the smell of mothballs and skunk was coming through. Is the smell of mothballs toxic?
I have a 9 mo. old who sleeps in our room in her crib. It rained last night so hopefully that helps. I can't imagine what kind of flooring we have under the carpet as in some places it is obviously warped which brings up my concern of mold as well. My landlords are hard to talk to as they get defensive about any concern we have. So to recap, is smell of mothballs, alone, toxic? Any info on plugging up hole going under mobile? Warped flooring in mobile?

There are many who affirm that the smell of mothballs (main ingredient naphthalene) is a neurotoxin and cancer causing agent that damages red blood cells and, if airborne like in the manner you describe, can be very damaging, especially to kids medlineplus.gov/
Add to that the mold situation, and you have a basis for suing your landlord, possibly.
It is toxic to breathe in mothballs, especially for a baby. Inform the landlord about this.
