Training an Abused Dog to Poop on a Leash?

I have a 1 year old Pit. She was abused before I got her. I got her to stop going to the bathroom in the house, but I can not get her to go poop on the leash. She walks on the leash, but not go very far until she wants to turn around and go back home. She will pee on the leash, but she will not poop. Any suggestions?

She might have been abused while walking on the leash and she pooped in the wrong place. I would invest in a professional trainer for this.

Have patience with her,and reward her when she does well! You can also get advice from professionals!

Does she poop immediately when she gets home (meaning she has to go but is scared)? If so, you may want to keep her out a little longer and wait it out until she poops, rewarding heavily when she does. The challenge with this method is you could be waiting her out for an hour or so...but once you can get the first one out of the way and she sees it ok, you should be able to reduce the times until she does everything at once.

Patience, rewards, and praise are the key!!

Many abused dogs have issues with being on a leash and taking walks in public. You have no idea what happened with the dog before you adopted the animal. You need to be patient and take a lot of treats with you to encourage her to go to the bathroom. She is scared to be outside on a leash right now and this is one of the problems. If she is just walking for a few minutes and wants to go home this means she is scared to be out of the comfort of your home. I would take her out to a park or maybe some place where she can play a bit with you while she is on her leash.

You can then try and get her to go poop several times when she is out and about playing. She will need to be prasied and rewarded for doing this. I would keep trying and keep encouraging her to go poop on your walks. If she is still having issues there are always professionals that are there to help you out and give you advice. The dog will come around but this is going to take a lot of time and love to show the dog they are loved and you will not hurt them again.
