Treating a Kitten's Eye Infection?

I have an 8 week old kitten. She's already on antibiotic drops for her eye infection. Today is her 2nd day on Tobramycin solution after about 6 days on another drop that made her eye worse. How long until I see a difference with antibiotic drops?

Today everything was fine until I cleaned her eye. It seemed to swell a bit more and she was bothered by it and pawed at her eye. Can cleaning it too much cause her eye to get irritated?

Kitten's eye infection:

  1. You kitten had a problem with the first drops and it seemed to make her eye worse. You have only been using the new drops a day or two. This can take up to a week or longer before you can see some positive results.
  2. You also said that you cleaned her eye today and it make it infected again. What did you clean her eye with?
  3. You could of rubbed too hard on her eye and irritated the eye again and that is why you think it is infected again.

  5. It is already infected and I think that you just irritated the eye from what you have written.
  6. You can try mixing 1 teaspoon of salt with a mug of warm water. Make sure you stir this well and the salt dissolves.
  7. Now take a cotton ball and dip it in the warm water. Use this to just hold on her eye and gently clean the area. Don't press too hard and don't rub her eye.
  8. Many small kittens eye infections is the result of a feline herpes virus. However, you have had the kitten at the vet's twice now and the kitten is under treatment.
  9. If you feel like the eye infection is getting worse, I would suggest that you call the vet to talk with them.
  10. You might need to take the cat back to the vet if the infection is not clearing up. I would give this another day or so to see if the new drops are working.

You are right, the drops are now working after a few days. I am cleaning her eye with warm water and a cotton ball.

I assume she is under a vets care. If you think the cat is getting worse, call the vet. Eye infections can lead to blindness. Dont take chances

Thank you! Luckily Ive seen a massive improvement. She doesnt paw at it when I give her antibiotics and the swelling & redness is down. Also, theres minimal discharge. Today is the 4/10 day shes on antibiotic eye drops so I have to be patient as well.

I guess it may take a bit longer since the first vet gave her some harsh drops that made it worse. One things for sure, I made sure to get the check up with this same vet and not the one that prescribed the drops that made it worse.

Cat eye infection.

Step 1
Do not wash too much, but you should of seen improvement within two days.

Step 2
Boil 1 cup of water add 1/4 tsp of salt, mix well.

Step 3
Let cool and wash the cats eye about every 2 hours.

Step 4
If it does not clear or show signs of improvement go back to the vets.

Step 5
When she is pawing at it it could be itchy.

Thank you for the advice! I started using the salt water mix and its worked better than water alone. Shes doing so much better now. She barely has any discharge and her eye is remaining open. Shes under antibiotics for another 5 days and I can see her third eyelid is so much better.

Its back to pink and her eye isnt swollen anymore. Regardless, she has a checkup on Saturday with the same vet. Honestly, I believe she had a bad reaction to the first set of drops on top of the pink eye.
