I work in the heat all day, (construction). Should I cover my poison ivy rash?

Advice from Dr. Oz:
f you will be exposed to the sun, instead of applying sunscreen to the rash, your doctor may recommend that you cover that area of your body with loose clothing so you don't irritate the rash.
On the other areas of your skin that are not affected with poison ivy rash, you should apply a sunscreen, after washing your hands carefully with warm water and soap. Always use sunscreen products that protect against both UVA and UVB sunlight with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30.
I would. It can spread
If it is going to be exposed to the sun or and/or your rash is in a place that could get scraped or irritated in other ways, you may want to cover it with loose clothing. There is a product called ivy dry that works pretty good. If your face is broke out, you may want to see a Dr. and see about getting a shot.
All clothing should be as loose as possible and should cover any rash that is exposed to the sun.
I hope you are treating your rash so that it will not be a prolonged problem. Here is a quote from the University of Florida web site (and other universities say the same)
This is not very expensive and is sold at most drug stores and other stores as well (Walmart, Target, etc.).
A big problem with poison ivy is cleaning the clothes that are exposed to the oils. Here is a link that describes how important this is and instructions for doing the cleaning.
