The other night I had a surge protector burn up and smoke when I turned a heater on in my bathroom. Now all sockets on that circuit work, but when I plug a small space heater in them it tries to kick on but won't, and the light goes dim or completely out or some times gets brighter.
We tried flipping breakers and have the same thing. The house has two breaker boxes, the first one where power comes in, everything works fine. The second one is where the problems start. Replaced breakers to the 220 for the dryer and same thing, when I try to turn it on it hums and lights go out. We even wired a surge protector strait to the breaker box and tried the space heater. Same thing. Then we unplugged the A/C unit in the living room and the main lights go out, but they're on different breakers. So if anyone has a clue please help, and thanks in advance. Oh, and could it be the 100amp disconnect at the box?

Yikes! I know it is expensive, but please contact a reputable electrician. Messing with electricity can cause a fire so safety first, please!!!
Post back what the person tells you!! Hope it is an easy fix!
Any time you see sparks or smoke, you must call in an electrician. If you get a fire and the cause is something you did incorrectly, your insurance will not pay for damages.
i think you are looking at your next house fire.
it is not a good scene
you are looking at someone for whom the 1st half of their house burned down due to a faulty connection or other
what I would do is shut off all electricity to that corner of the house via breaker and contact a pro
no joke
