Troubleshooting Electrical Circuit Problems?

Last night my power went out and the generator kicked in. When the power came back the plugged in lights flashed and then the plugs stopped working throughout the house. The light switches still work. However, there is one plug in the kitchen and one plug in the bathroom that still works. What is really really strange though is that when the cooker is turned on and knob is turned, all the plugs start working again and the cooker doesn't heat up. Any ideas what is wrong?

There was a similar question about electricity that only worked when the dryer was on. Somehow your 220 volt became 110 and is only 220 when the stove is on to complete the circuit. You need an electrician.
