So my fluorescent light wasn't working. Rather than replace the ballast I just bought a new shop light fixture. However when I hooked it up and placed the bulbs in it doesn't light. What could be my issue?

The bulbs may not be compatible with the new fixture or you may have wired incorrectly.
Hi,
I would call the store and find out if the bulbs you have are compatible with the new light fixture. Also you can ask them for advice as well.
Blessings,
Robyn
I am sorry. I am not clear on your question, so I will answer to what I think I am understanding.
You replaced the entire thing (took out old, put in new) and it still isn't working?
This sounds more like a wiring issue than a fixture issue. If the old fixture didn't work, you took it out, put in a new fixture and it isn't working, the wiring or the wall switch could be at fault.
Unless you are super handy with electricity, which it sound like you may be, I never encourage DIY electrical projects. Too many risks for fire.
Hope it is an easy fix for you. Please post back what you learn.
