Can someone help me to answer some questions on lovebird behavior? What does it mean when the lovebird just hides around on the bottom of the cage? What does it mean when the lovebird sits in an empty food holder? What does it mean when the lovebird rubs its beak hard between the cage wires or on the dowel that it is sitting on?

First be sure that your bird is not sick when you say its 'hiding' on the bottom. Look for...runny eyes or nose, sneezing, coughing. If it seems otherwise healthy she may be sitting in her dish if shes ready to breed. Place plenty of paper towel (NOT newspaper) in the cage for her so she can shred it for nesting. If you think shes not doing the motherly things, take her to the vet. Rubbing the beak...get them a Cuttle Bone. They're cheap and its sharpens and cleans the beak. They rub to try to get the same effect as they would from a Cuttle Bone!

Lovebirds are not happy on their own. There should be a pair, then they're as happy as can be. Otherwise, the other suggestions may well be right.
I would take the bird to the vet if it is acting strange or at least call the vet and ask what the best thing to do for the bird is. It could be eggbound. You could search on the internet about what to do for a lovebird that is ready to nest. Good Luck. Robyn
I am not sure about what is wrong but I have a love bird that lives with my female cockatiel and her baby. Both the lovebird and the teil are about 4 months old and the lovebird has started grooming and feeding the teil. The mom doesn't even feed it any longer because it is old enough to eat on its own.
