Unplug Electrical Devices When Not in Use

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 677 Posts

A fan with the electric display turned off. Many electrical devices draw electricity even when they are turned off, which adds to your bill. A lot of them have displays or lights. To make sure you are not using any electricity, unplug them. The pictures show the thermometer displays on the window fan even if it is turned off. When I unplugged it, the display stopped.

I have put many of my always on appliances and devices on power strips. One strip has my computer, my printer, my monitor, my speakers and an as-needed extension cord for charging devices. When I am done with the computer I shut down the tower and then turn off the power strip. I have done the same with my tv and my cable box. I have very basic cable and will temporarily lose my guide, etc. This is resolved by turning on the power strip about 15 minutes before I plan to view. The microwave, the convection oven and the washer and dryer are plugged in only during periods of use. Doing these steps have made a nice reduction in my electric bill.
