Sandwiches are probably the most popular lunchtime staples. Who doesn't like a sandwich for a quick and easy lunch or snack? This tip applies to wraps too!
With making sandwiches, condiments are almost always part of the equation. Many come in squeeze bottles to speed the process (think mustard, relish, bbq sauce, ketchup, and even honey and some jams and jellies). By squeezing what you need onto your bread (without touching the bread!), you reduce the possibility of cross contamination, which can happen if you are always dipping back into, say, a large jar of mayonnaise. Plus, every time that big jar is opened, it could grab something airborne in your kitchen (nobody wants a science project in their fridge!).
To be thrifty, I usually buy a larger jar of mayonnaise. It is one of the condiments that is priced much higher when packaged in a squeeze bottle. I transfer mayonnaise from the big jar into a food grade squeeze bottle. You could get really thrifty and reuse an empty mustard bottle, but I went ahead and spent a dollar for one.
Now, when making lunch, all condiments are dispensed quickly and without fear of those nasty germs!
Happy sandwich making!
