I use a drain pan in my kitchen quite often and I thought it would be good to have a drain bucket on hand when washing garden vegetables outside. It gets the excess water out.
I purchased a new bucket and asked my husband to drill holes in the bottom.
He thought it was crazy to drill holes in a new bucket but I assured him that my vegetable buckets have to be clean. It has worked so well that I'm going to purchase another one so I will have 2 drain buckets.
To clean the vegetables outside, I use two buckets for washing. After the final rinse, I set the drain bucket over into the empty bucket, and it is ready to fill up.
I let the vegetables drain for a few minutes before pouring them on the drying screen. This prevents water droplets from filling the holes in the screen.
The drain bucket has really speeded up the drying process.

Good idea. Can collect the water to use on the garden - water being very short these days.
Marg from England.
We have a garden and do a lot of freezing and canning. It takes a lot of water to wash the vegetables and I try not to waste it. Usually, I pour it on my bushes.
