I am trying to find a source for buying used crayons. I need about 5 lbs. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Thrift stores and yard sales are your best bet. Making fire starters or candles? I hope that helps.

Melt them in the oven in old or dollar store muffin tins. Let them harden in the tins for round shapes or pour them in candy molds or ice trays.
If you have no time constraints, I'd wait until school was out next year and ask teachers to save them for you rather than allow children to toss them. Also, check with children's classes at churches, babysitters, teachers, daycare centers, yard sales, people who have children, etc.
I would also suggest yard sales. You could also ask all the people that you know who have school aged children if they have crayons that they could give you. I don't think you will have much success asking at places like schools - as a teacher, if there were any half used crayons left behind, I kept them in the room for students to use who'd lost or used up or never had their own. And teachers have their own art projects to use crayon bit in.
You can buy them in bulk at brightercrayons.com. It's 5% off every pound you buy for a limited time!
Art teachers in elementary schools. Mine just gave me a tub full of crayons. Also preschool rooms have used crayons .
