How much baking powder or baking soda can I use to add to an expired box of Duncan Hines cake mix to help with the rising?

How long ago did the cake mix expire? If it has been too long you should throw it away and buy a new one. You should open the box and take a look at the mix. A lot of mixes when they expire are good for a few days or even weeks before they should never be used. If the powder in the mix looks funny or has changed color this is not a good idea to use this mix. Plus if the mix is still good you should not need to add any baking soda to the mix to help it rise.

I would add 1 tsp of baking soda and 1 1/2 tsp of baking powder and you should be good to go....
Considering how dirt cheap cake mix is (you can even get it for free at food distros) I wouldn't bother using an expired one
if it's 6 months or less, no need to replace anything
I have used mixes up to 18 months out of date with no issues and nothing added.
Smell it first. You can usually tell if it is rancid by the smell.
