You should never, ever use it, or any other pesticide on things you are going to eat. Some foods will absorb it through their flesh. Some will absorb it through their roots. If you wouldn't eat it, don't put it on your food. Sevin kills beneficial insects as well as the ones you want to kill. It is illegal in places like England and Germany. It is toxic to people, and is a likely human carcinogen.
Chemicals used in the production of Sevin leaked in an industrial accident in Bhopal, India, in 1984. Thousands were killed and injured immediately, and it is estimated that 20,000 - 30,000 people in total died due to breathing it in. The people who make Sevin will tell you that it is safe. It is not. Please don't use it.
Sevin is perfectly safe on vegetables. HOWEVER-for the product to be safe, one must READ THE LABEL!!
If you don't have the label, use the Internet skills that brought you to this site to Google the product, find the manufacturer's website, and read the label online.
It is dangerous and irresponsible to use any chemical without reading and following the label.
Can't stress that enough, and your asking how to use it tells me you either don't have or don't care to read the label. So let me say this again:

Actually, the warning on Sevin is 'only' at the 'caution' level, the lowest of the three levels of toxicity hazard warnings listed on garden chemicals-something you would have known if you had bothered to understand the basics of safely using herbicides and pesticides.
I'm starting to agree with those people who want to take ALL garden chemicals behind the counter and only sold to those who are licensed to use them.
