I've been asked to use Retinol A to lighten some dark spots on my skin. Can anyone or does anyone know if it's like a skin bleaching cream? And when or if I use the cream if my skin gets light will it stay permanent?

It will lighten the spots as long as you use it. It is irritating, however, and should be used under a doctor's supervision.
I do not know who asked you to use this but I would recommend that you see a dermatologist for recommendations as they would know more about the type of dark spots you are concerned about.

I use Retin A for ACNE spots. It does work and they do not come back, but again, it is an acne spot from scratching it. It is not a bleaching cream like what you may be thinking. It removes your skin layers, which is the irritation part.
I posted something about this a long time ago but you can use raw potato on your spots. The starch reduces pigmentation and the enzymes found in it promote healthy skin.
