I bought this dresser for $40 and planned to refinish it and use in my house or resell. I just loved the shape of it and how great quality it was! When I was putting the drawers back in after getting it home I found that this was a Bassett furniture dresser! Ive searched all over and cannot find this anywhere to find a value. Im struggling to find a serial number but wondered if Im just not looking in the right places? I even went to my local Bassett Furniture Store for guidance and where to find the serial number and/or the value with no luck. No one there knew where to find it. Does anyone know how I can find the value of this beautiful 9 drawer dresser? TIA!!

Bassett is middle of the road furniture. You may get $100 if you refinish it in my area.
This 9 drawer Bassett dresser sold for $300 after being refinished:

This 9 drawer dresser was listed for $650:
Bassett is a good name but a good brand name does not always guarantee a high value.
Many factors have to be considered when looking for the value of any large piece of furniture.
Location is a big factor as furniture is very expensive to ship so almost all furniture listed for sale by small sellers is listed as 'local pick up only'.
How popular is this style of furniture in your area?
Some areas will be better than others but consider that you were able to purchase this for $40 - why so cheap? Maybe this is the value in your area?
A serial number (if there ever was one) would probably be of no value but if you check on the back of your dresser, there should be information that could be useful. Sometimes a number will be printed or even the type of wood. This is all helpful but may lead nowhere in doing research.
You can check out Bassett furniture ads to see if you can find an ad showing when this style was originally made but most people will be calling it 'mid-century'.
You mentioned refinishing and that word is a big red flag - what condition is your dresser that would make it need refinishing?
If you are talking about a true refinishing then you are talking about a huge undertaking that may not increase the value but a few dollars. If for yourself, then it may be worth it to you.
If you plan to sell then maybe a good cleaning and some Old English would make it look better.
It does not really matter what prices sellers are asking for similar furniture as it will have no bearing on the value of your dresser.
The only way selling prices can help you is when you are looking at furniture in local stores/online.
Selling prices show only what a seller would like to receive for their item but the item is of no real value until it's sold (only value is to the owner).
Here is one example of a similar dresser that is listed for $100;
I say similar only because of size, color, and style (flat on the floor).
This dresser has been listed for sale for over a year.
Local pick up in Florida.

here is another similar that sold for $15 in 5/2021:

I did find some larger triple dressers (in several different brands) that sold for several hundred dollars but most were pick up only so it is difficult to use any of these as a value for your dresser.
I do not mean to be so discouraging but it's better to know some of the facts rather than just thinking just because you have a very nice Bassett dresser that it is automatically worth several hundred dollars.
And it well could be worth several hundred dollars in your area but you will have to check this out for yourself.
I would suggest that if you wish to sell your dresser, just clean it up, take several very good pictures (from all angles), list it at a good price (maybe $400?), and see what happens.
List on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace and see if you receive any offers. If no offers then you may have to lower the price.
That is a decent though not high end brand. Its would probably sell for around $60-$80 in my area. Though if it was professionally refinished it would probably be a little over $100. Bassett doesnt have the best resale value.
I think your dresser had a mirror. I found a bit similar vintage dresser with mirror by Bassett Furniture www.ebth.com/
It was sold for $56.
Most likely there was also a mirror and the serial number was written on the back of the mirror. No mirror - no serial number.
The value is about $100-125.
Your dresser is most likely made in the 1970s, like this slightly similar dresser www.myantiquefurniturecollection.../
possibly in 1973 as in this ad www.ebay.com/

The value is about $100, maybe a little higher, but it depends on the demand in your area, since shipping is very expensive.
