Can anyone help me identify the type of wood used for this cabinet? Also, I wonder how much it would fetch if sold directly to an old furniture lover. It has a "McCreery & Sons New York City" label on the back, which I assume means it was sold by that company. It is in great condition except that the door no longer locks.

It is almost impossible to tell the wood type from a photo. Someone would have to look at it in person to help you.
The stain color looks cherry--but that may not be the wood type. It could be a light mahogany wood or something else.
Here is some history on the store: www.villagepreservation.org/
Are you asking because you want to sell or refinish?
I would like to see the whole piece if you are asking to sell so I can gauge size and condition, I may be able to help you value it. Also, if I knew where you were located, that factors into values!
Thanks!
This looks like cherry wood to me. In my area furniture like this is given away. I hope you have luck selling
There also might be a maker's mark on your furniture because James McCreery & Company was a major New York City department store, not a furniture maker. James McCreery sold mass-produced furniture by various makers, including Drexel, Byrdcliffe Art Colony. Pieces often were marked by both the store and the maker. As I understand it, you did not find the manufacturer's stamp, so it will be difficult to identify the manufacturer.
The McCreery & Co. store worked in New York from 1867 to 1954 (or until 1953 according to other sources). From the photo of the label, it is possible to determine the approximate year of manufacture of your cabinet. I saw oval labels on furniture "Master made James McCreery & Co. New York": not metallic for 1920s www.harpgallery.com/
It is very difficult to determine from which wood the furniture is made from a photograph. I think the color of your cabinet looks a bit like Mahogany, like this one chairish-prod.freetls.fastly.net/
It is difficult to sell such furniture, since it is heavy (delivery is expensive), and besides, your cabinet has the door no longer locks. Therefore, be guided by the prices in your area. The price will not be high.
I found James McCreery & Co 1930s Mahogany Dresser sold for $199 www.aptdeco.com/
Compare color.
if you are still looking for information, you can post your question the Reddit site and possibly receive some answers.
You will need a full picture as this on only shows part of the cabinet. They may also want more pictures.
If you plan to sell you will probably have to consider what style of furniture is being sold/bought in your area as shipping is very costly.
