I recently purchased a gorgeous "Made in Japan" china set which I intend to keep for formal use. Even though I don't plan to sell it, I'd love to know how much it might be worth for my own information (and prove to my husband that it's worth what I spent, of course!).
The set was made by N.S.R., a later incarnation of Meito. During WWII, Meito was purchased by Sumimoto Steel Corporation and renamed Narumi Setto Narumi (N.S.R.). They were producing china at least through 1998 (the last reference I saw).
The pieces I have are exactly like Meito's "me140" in every detail except one: the backstamp. Those are also visually identical (dark teal shield, Made in Japan, Hand Painted) but have different manufacturer names! The ones I can find online say "Meito China" and mine says"N.S.R. China", both in intricate gothic-like script. (Honestly, I'm beginning to entertain the thought that mine may be a knockoff.)
The china appears to be hard paste. The pattern (Meito's me140) is pretty straightforward: white base; wide ivory band that runs from the central area over the single swell to the edge; a swag of 7 roses or moss roses - four each on larger dishes, three each on the smaller; two very narrow bands of gold sandwiching a tan trim; heavier gold on the handles of teacups, creamer, sugar, and the handles at the sides of serving dishes; and on each of the lidded dishes, the top handle is completely gold. Every bit identical.
I've been working hard on this and don't seem to be getting anywhere with the N.S.R. stamp. It's frustrating! I've already been through eBay, Etsy, and Replacements and what you see here is what I've gotten. This information is almost exclusively from little random sites, not from them!
(I'll try to upload additional photos later).

Looks like you got a great deal. Plates alone are about $9 each. You can check it out here. www.replacements.com/
Have you asked Replacements.com to ID these for you? I don't see the resemblance with the pattern you quote. This could be my computer screen resolution is not accurate.
Replacements is great for IDing patterns.
Once ID'd you can then see what they sell them for which gives you a rough ID for value.
I love it that you will keep and use. Most people don't want or like formal plates any more, which I find so sad. I still use my grandmothers nearly 100 year old dishes and I love them. I sold pieces I would never use to Replacements, but kept the basics because they make such a lovely table.
May you enjoy many meals and conversations with these lovelies!
