I have two Mersman end tables in good condition #7489. Could you give me their approximate worth and if I paint them will they lose their value?

They are worth $35-45 each. Painting generally lowers the value.
Mersman end tables like yours and similar are generally considered in the lower end of value unless they are in excellent condition and even then they do not sell for more than $60-$80 and most sellers will not ship these tables so the purchaser will have to be someone in their immediate area. This limits the number of potential buyers to just a few people and that is also according to how large the city happens to be.
Hi! I love these! Two just sold a few years ago at auction for $100 offerup.com/
The value would be about the same today. I usually use eBay to determine current market value, but none are on that I see in the sold section. I only ever use sold items to value as it tells me what someone actually paid.
Painting does usually devalue, unless you are a famous artist and paint it up museum style :) I say that tongue in cheek... some repainting may fetch more as a one of a kind if that is what you do for a living and people seek out your work. Typically, if it is just Joe or Jane hobbiest painting, it devalues it.
These are sturdy and functional pieces so if it is something you are going to use and love, go for it!!! In a $50 piece, even if you devalue it to $30, it's not like painting over the Sistine Chapel! Enjoy your lovely piece! These were meant to be loved and grace your home!!!!!
