Value of Old World Book Encyclopedias?

I have a set of World Book encyclopedias from around 1959 and a set from around 1980. What would be their value to sell?

Thank you.

Sad to say, these encyclopedias are worth very little. You would be better of donating them and taking the tax deduction.

Are they hardcover? I have seen 50s versions around for around $200

Many people have old books they think are valuable and would like to sell. Most old dictionaries, references etc., have very little value, a few dollars at most. Encyclopedias dated after 1923 are essentially worthless but crafters may be interested for the old pictures. Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc., receive donations of tons of old encyclopedias, dictionaries and reference books but send them to recycling centers or dumps as they cannot use or sell them.

You can check online for old book collectors, on EBay, Craigs List and other retail sites for possibilities. Everything is now online and updated constantly so old books are just that-old.

Some of these sets will sell for a good price but how long it may take to sell them is another matter. No sets are "around" a year, each set has a published date and the exact date can be important as to the value. eBay is still the best selling platform but if a seller wants a decent price for these sets they may have them listed for months or even years. Even libraries and thrift stores now list on eBay so there are a lot of sets available.

You can check on sales and possible value on eBay at any time.
The condition of the set is important also as well as number of year books since publication with the set.
Shipping is expensive (and a LOT of trouble) and some inexperienced sellers who offer free shipping may find at the end of the sale they have made only a few dollars.
If you want to sell these books, I would recommend using Craigslist. List them at a fair price, with photos, and as there would be no shipping you may sell them quicker. You can always start with a higher price and lower it if they do not sell.
Here is a link to eBay's recently sold list of World Book sets that may give you some idea as to what people will pay - just keep in mind that price shown is not always all (profit) as eBay does charge for their services.

Have a complete set of 1955 World Book Encyclopedias, in tact and really nice condition ...red and blue as requested ...they made changes in 1956 so this was last year before that....
