Furniture sales are regional supply and demand based. Not sure where Judy is, but that is sad that this would end up in a donation pile. I want to shop there!!
Where I am in Pittsburgh, in some markets you could fetch $300-$500 for your piece--if you were in the right part of town (we have some areas where people want to recreate their 1920s-1940 homes with period piece) and used the right words to advertise--which are art deco and sideboard and the wood type--which looks like oak.
This is unusual piece and looks well maintained.
Start high and take best offer. No matter where you are in the country (if you are in the US) you will fetch a higher value for the item if you sell it through a vintage store or antique shop, but you will split the profits with the store.
Post back how your sale goes!! This is a lovely piece!
Thank you! I'm in San Antonio, Tx, and I really love this piece of furniture but unfortunately I have no room for it anymore. I will follow your advice, thanks again.
You should do fairly well in San Antonio selling as I often see Art Deco items sell there (for local pick up) pretty consistently (I like trending sales around the country--weird hobby right!). They aren't getting the super high prices that you would get in NYC or even in parts of Pittsburgh, but they are getting on the low end of the high prices I discussed below.
Thanks a lot!! I think is a beautiful hobby, I love antiques, and unique pieces.
Thanks for your advice.
This buffet is very original - this sideboard has a drinks cabinet in the side. The style is Art Deco. It dates from around the 1920's or 1930's. Made presumably from Solid Oak. I found a little similar buffet: www.worthpoint.com/
Oak Breakfront Art Deco 1930s Sideboard was sold for £265($370.34) www.antiques-atlas.com/
The price of 1930's vintage retro antique art deco carved oak sideboard buffet cabinet is £225 www.ebay.co.uk/
Rare Ercol Oak Sideboard is on sale for £99, but it seems to be smallerwww.ebay.co.uk/
So, you have Antique Original Art Deco 1930s Sideboard Buffet with Drinks Cabinet (presumably Oak). The price is about $350-400, but the price depends on the demand in your area, as delivery is very expensive.
In my area of the country, you have to donate it. No one wants it. Try $150 and see where it goes from there.
I believe this may be the type/style of furniture that will sell well in almost any mid/high area of the US.
Just be sure to describe it well, show lots of pictures - all around, top, inside, all measurements, any flaws, etc.
I also think you should start high - maybe $500-600 - offers considered - local pick up only.
Be sure to keep it listed for several weeks before reducing the price.
Thank you!!! I will follow your advice.
